StayWell

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

StayWell ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what's needed to run the app:

  • Account information: Your email address and password when you create an account. StayWell uses email and password sign-in only.
  • Meal plan data: Meals you plan, cookbook entries, snack lists, and swap history.
  • Household information: Names, age groups, dietary notes, and preferred snacks you enter for household members.
  • Chore data: Chore names, assignments, and schedules you create.
  • Calendar data: Event titles, notes, dates, and reminders you add to your household calendar, including whether a plan is tentative or confirmed.
  • Shopping and pantry data: Shopping list items, the prices you enter, your weekly grocery budget, and pantry items with their stock levels (stocked, low, or out). Pantry expiration dates and restock reminders are stored only on your device.
  • Subscriptions and deliveries: Subscriptions and deliveries you add, including their names, expected dates, how often they repeat, and any links you save to manage them.
  • Photos: If you scan a physical recipe with your camera, we store the photo alongside the recipe it was scanned from so you can refer back to it. If you add a reference photo to a pantry or shopping item (StayWell Pro), we store that photo with the item so your household can see exactly what to buy. Photos are only stored when you choose to add one — we don't access your camera or photo library otherwise.
  • Shared recipes: If you send a recipe from your cookbook to another person, for example by text message or another sharing method, StayWell creates a link to a web page that shows the recipe. Anyone you send the link to can view that recipe. See our Recipe Sharing Guidelines.
  • Recipe links you import: If you import a recipe from a website, the app opens that web page directly on your device. The link is not sent to our servers or to our AI provider.
  • Push notification data: If you enable notifications, we store a device token and your notification preferences so we can deliver them (e.g. chore reminders, meal plan ready).
  • Usage data: Number of AI meal plan generations used per week (to enforce plan limits), and overall daily usage totals across the app. We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools.
  • Feedback: Messages you send us from the app's Send Feedback option.
  • Subscription status: Whether your account has an active StayWell Pro subscription.

We do not collect location data or contacts. We do not access your device's camera or photo library except when you actively choose to scan a recipe or add a photo to an item.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and sync your meal plans, cookbook, shopping lists, pantry, deliveries and subscriptions, household, chores, and calendar across your devices and with the other members of your household.
  • To generate personalized AI meal plans and snack suggestions (Pro users only) — household members' first names, age groups, dietary notes, and preferred snacks are sent to our AI provider to tailor suggestions.
  • To estimate your cart total from the prices you enter, and to add low or out pantry items to your shopping list.
  • To enforce weekly AI generation limits.
  • To read and respond to feedback you send us, and to understand overall use of the app.
  • To manage your subscription and unlock Pro features.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data to third parties.

3. AI Features

StayWell uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power several features. Depending on what you use, this can include:

  • Generating a meal plan or planning snacks (StayWell Pro) — household members' first names, age groups, dietary notes, and preferred snacks, along with recipe and meal names, are sent to produce suggestions.
  • Reading a scanned recipe photo — text extracted from the photo on your device is sent to structure it into a recipe (title, ingredients, steps).
  • Other cookbook and shopping conveniences — such as filling in ingredient or pricing details, or suggesting tags for a recipe. For ingredient and price fill-ins, only the item or meal name is sent.

This data is used solely to power the feature you're using and is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. We never send your email address, password, or payment information to Anthropic. Only household members' first names are included in meal and snack planning requests, so suggestions can be tailored to each person.

4. Data Storage and Service Providers

Most of your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Row-level security policies ensure each user can only access their own data. Pantry expiration dates and restock reminders are stored only on your device.

We use these service providers to run StayWell:

  • Supabase: stores your account and app data, and photos you add.
  • Anthropic: powers AI features, as described in Section 3.
  • Apple: processes in-app purchases, delivers push notifications, and handles requests if you use StayWell with Siri.
  • Vercel: hosts the web page that displays a recipe when you share a recipe link.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

All payments are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We never see or store your payment card information. Subscription management (upgrades, cancellations, refunds) is handled through your Apple ID settings.

6. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app. This immediately and permanently deletes your account data — including your profile, household, meal plan, cookbook, shopping lists, pantry, deliveries and subscriptions, chores, calendar, scanned recipe photos, photos you added to items, feedback you've sent, and notification settings — from our servers. It cannot be undone. If you're the owner of a household shared with other members, you'll need to remove them (or have them leave) before you can delete your account, since deleting the household would also delete their data.

If you're a member of a shared household (not its owner) and delete your account, the items you added to the household, such as recipes, chores, and shopping items, stay with the household so the other members don't lose them. Recipes you've shared with another person may also remain available to them, since that content has already been shared with them.

7. Children's Privacy

StayWell is not directed at children under 13, and account holders must be 18 or older (confirmed at sign-up — see our Terms of Use). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

StayWell does let parents and guardians enter information about their own children — such as names, ages, and dietary notes — for household coordination purposes. This is information you provide about your family, not information we collect from a child directly. See the next section for what happens when you choose to share that information with someone else, such as a babysitter.

8. Village (Shareable Household Sheets)

Village lets you put together a sheet for someone watching your household — such as a sitter — combining your meal plan, snacks, household member details (including any dietary notes you've entered), and any free-form notes you add (for example, a bedtime routine or emergency contacts). This can include information about your children.

When you choose to share a Village sheet, StayWell creates a link. Anyone who has that link can view the sheet — no StayWell account or app installation is required, and the page is not indexed by search engines. This is similar to sharing a link to a Google Doc: the link itself is the only thing that controls access, so you should only send it to people you trust.

You control how long a share link stays active. By default a new link expires after 1 day, and you can choose a longer or shorter window, or no expiry, when you create it. You can revoke a link at any time from within the app, which immediately stops anyone — including someone who already has the link — from viewing it.

You are responsible for choosing who you share a Village link with and for revoking it when it's no longer needed.

9. Your Rights

You can delete your account and its data at any time from within the app (see Section 6). To request access to or correction of your personal data, contact us at the address below — we will respond within 30 days.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
